Thanksgiving fun and 10 random things!!!

Fri Nov 27, 2009, 12:56 PM
  • Mood: Joy
  • Reading: The Picture of Dorian Gray
  • Watching: Tenth Doctor clips on YouTube
  • Eating: Jello salad
  • Drinking: Ecco Domani pinot grigio
Yayyy... my mom's in Michigan for Thanksgiving, so I got her house all to myself by choosing not to go with her. So I drove down to Northfield, picked up a friend who was staying at Olaf over break, along with one of her friends, and brought them home! Since 9:00 Wednesday night, we've had a late-night grocery shopping adventure, we've watched several episodes of Doctor Who and Torchwood because two of us are avidly obsessed fans and our friend had never seen either series, and we've also been having fun watching random YouTube videos.

We've also done LOTS of cooking and washed LOTS of dishes. Yayyyy! On Wednesday night, when Kelsey fell asleep on the couch watching Who, Justine and I went and spent three hours in the kitchen seasoning the turkey (everytime I have to touch raw poultry, I swear to myself that I'll become a vegetarian. But somehow, this never happens.), cooking the cranberries, making the Jello for the jello salad, and baking the bread for the stuffing. Yayyy!

After going to bed at 4am and waking up at 11, I started working on other stuff. We had no idea what to do with the turkey after it was seasoned, so I had to call my dad :blushes: to ask him how to do it. It turned out fantastic, by the way. We spent the day peeling potatoes, sauteing veggies, mixing lots and lots of stuff for various dishes, and generally having a lot of fun. Even though we started the night before, we didn't get done with all the proper food until almost 6:00! Hurray for not planning anything ahead or even figuring out when to start various things so that it would all be done at the same time. And the pie was still not even in the oven when we sat down to eat. We had to rig up a contraption to let the filling strain while we ate, which was a marvel of engineering. Hurray for amazing creativity! =D Generally, we've had a lot of fun.

We were up until like 3 or 4 again, and I didn't get up until after noon today. We were supposed to go shopping today, but I think Kelsey's still sleeping because God only knows when she went to bed. Maybe we'll save the shopping for tomorrow and just do homework and watch Doctor Who all day. I should probably finish the scarf I'm knitting to donate to charity while they're doing homework... a school-free life is not necessarily a homework-free life, especially when you've signed a contract to serve 1700 hours in community service over the next year.

Welllll... yay? Now on to the second part of this journal entry, in which I will tell 10 random things about myself. Because I was anonymously tagged (like... she tagged "everyone", I think...) by :iconmolassive: in such a journal and I said I'd do it.

1: I want to be a teacher. And although I have discovered, through my tutoring, that 4th through 6th graders are lots of fun and generally a lot less scary than I thought they would be, I'd like to teach secondary, please. Probably Latin, but maybe science, math, not sure...

2: I loveloveloveloveLOVE Doctor Who!!!!

3: I think I'm actually British at heart...

4: I suffer from an inconveniently unfortunate attraction to gay men. For this reason, I will probably be single for the rest of my life. Unless I move to Europe, because lots of guys there are metro ;)

5: For years, I wanted to become an astrophysicist. This started when I started reading lots of stuff by Carl Sagan. I still have my moments when I'm tempted to switch my major to physics.

6: I'm fascinated by Myers-Briggs personality types, and I often find myself assigning types to fictional characters.

7: Speaking of Myers-Briggs types, I'm an INTP.

8: I quit piano lessons when I was in 4th grade, and I've regretted it ever since, but not enough to start again... until very, very recently. I really want to take lessons when I go back to St. Olaf because if I don't take them in college, I can't imagine that I'll ever go back to it.

9: I play horn and bass guitar. The sexiest piece of music ever is the Gondor theme from LOTR, because it's a sexy, amazing horn solo.

10: My non-academic goal for the next couple years is to see Les Miserables in the West End before it closes in 2011. Stupid Broadway production that closed before I found out what an amazing, amazing show it is.

I could go on, but these were the first 10 things that came to mind, I guess...

Um... and for the 10 random things dealie, I tag... um... :iconchicken-the-third:, :iconelibethobbit:, and :iconbberry06:. Yayyy!

Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe, don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink. Good luck.

John Barrowman rules the universe and everybody knows it :evillaugh:
Do not disturb, Im playing naked hide and seek with Jack and Ianto ;)
:icongothichobbit08:
Oh noes!! So you didn't get my note complaining about how worried I was about the ending of the first episode? Sad day :( but yes, I have indeed seen CoE. I must say, the first three days were fantastic, and Day 4 was good up until Jack decided to bring Ianto with him to see the 456... I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive Russell T. Davies... but of course I'll keep watching Doctor Who and Queer as Folk, because he hasn't done anything wrong there yet :aww: Day 5 was sooo sad, but I guess Jack's always the rational, making the necessary sacrifices, right? And then just running off at the end... I bet he's gone to find the Doctor to comfort him ;) maybe those two were meant to be... I'm still in denial about Ianto, tho. :cries:
